Say hi
Alex's room by day, seen from above as a cut-away: a desk with a monitor and laptop, an armchair beside a reading lamp, archive boxes, framed certificates, a model jet and the front door.

Alex Zhu Zhou, AI engineer, San Francisco Bay Area

I'm an engineer who likes building solutions to problems. A builder, basically.

Aviation analytics dashboard

Flight-data processing with prediction accuracy and ICAO KPI14 punctuality analysis.

Systems work. Built with Java, Spring Boot, Vue.js, Oracle, MongoDB

  • Real-time flight data processing with Oracle integration.
  • ICAO KPI14 punctuality within several tolerance windows.
  • Trajectory accuracy with MSE and RMSE.

Inside the dashboard

A full-stack system that ingests flight data, compares predicted with actual flights, measures punctuality against ICAO KPI14 tolerance windows, and scores trajectory accuracy.

Java, Spring Boot, Vue.js, Oracle, MongoDB. Screens use sample data

  1. Real-time flight data processing with Oracle integration.
  2. ICAO KPI14 punctuality within several tolerance windows.
  3. Trajectory accuracy with MSE and RMSE.
  • Overview.

  • Trajectory accuracy (sample data).

  • Flight search (sample data).

  • Full analysis page (sample data).

Every screen uses sample data.

AI agent workflow builder

A drag-and-drop editor for multi-step AI agent workflows, with live per-node runs.

Recent AI work. Built with TypeScript, React

  • Visual canvas with typed node connections.
  • A no-code condition builder, with an advanced mode for expressions.
  • Live execution feedback on each node, then per-node results.

AI Interview Coach

Live video mock interviews with an AI interviewer, then a written review of every answer.

Recent AI work. Built with TypeScript, Tavus CVI, Daily.co, OpenAI, Serverless

  • General and coding-style interview modes.
  • Real-time video with an AI replica over WebRTC.
  • Post-call feedback written from the transcript; it assesses answers rather than scoring them.

Stanford archives Q&A

A retrieval-augmented chatbot over Stanford's Black community archives.

Earlier AI work. Built with Python, Pinecone, LLMs

Researchers ask plain-language questions; the system retrieves the relevant passages from long scanned and digital records and answers from them.

  • Indexing: archive documents are chunked and embedded into a Pinecone vector index.
  • Every question: retrieve the closest passages, then answer from them.

Sustainability scoring pipeline

An AI research pipeline that reads companies' sustainability reports and scores them.

Earlier AI work. Built with Python, OpenAI, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Next.js

  • AI-assisted web scraping and extraction.
  • Scoring model and company dashboard.

Temporal order orchestrator

An order, payment and shipping lifecycle built on Temporal workflows.

Systems work. Built with Temporal, FastAPI, SQL, React

Durable order orchestration: workflows, activities, signals, timers, retries and child workflows, with idempotent payments, separate task queues and an API to start workflows, send signals and inspect live state.

  • Signals, timers, retries and child workflows.
  • Idempotent payment logic.
  • Live state inspection from an API and dashboard.

Mind Mosaic

AI journaling: log your mood, get feedback on each entry, and talk it through.

Hackathon apps. Built with Next.js, Express, MongoDB, Gemini

  • LLM feedback on every entry.
  • Mood tracking graphs.
  • A chat companion grounded in your journal.

DayTalks

Talk about your day in a voice note; it reads the emotion in your voice and tracks your mood.

Hackathon apps. Built with React, FastAPI, Llama 3.1, MongoDB

A voice journal: record a short note about your day, and the app picks up the emotion in your voice, tracks your mood over time and gives you personal insights.

  • Emotion from voice.
  • Mood over time.
  • Personal insights.

I’m Alex.

I build multi-agent LLM pipelines that review long, high-stakes documents, with evals and checks built in, as a forward deployed engineer at a Y Combinator-backed startup.

Before that I was a solutions engineer at Chevron, interned at Embraer and at Stanford, and studied computer science at UC Davis.

On the side, I build software and AI tools for companies. I work in Spanish and English.
